Big shots are just small shots who kept shooting.

Haha... shall write a short synopsis for ppl out there who may find they are always choked by work... hmm some of these methods are actually used by me... and u all may find that u may be using these methods too... but just for your info and ref... think some of the advice may be useful for u out there:-)

1. We cannot manage time - but we can learn to manage how we direct our attention. Pls note that every second of our attention is crucial to making changes - in which the change will be in the direction we want it go. The ultimate aim is to do what NEEDS to be done when it needs to be done.

2. Procrastination is the thief of time. Be decisive. Inability to manage our attention can ruin our lives or be literally lethal. And it is always important to GAIN control of our lives.

3. Busy-ness is often an escape from having to deal with some impt and challenging matters. Only focus on what is important. Instead of reacting to life's circumstances only, we always have a choice of responses that we can make.

4. Techniques to management of your life:
a) Saying NO
An old saying is that u can do anything if u can put your mind to it, but u can't do everything. Life presents us with an infinity of choices. But the very fact that we call them 'choices' shows that we can't have all of them. An essential part of coming to maturity is making the choices and commitments that are going to shape our lives. We should go through a process of choosing what to give our attention to and what not to give our attention to.
Learning to say no to low-value activities is essential: aka set a monetary value for every hour of your life and compare the value of the activities to the value set.
Learn how to say no instinctively and in a neutral tone of voice.

b) Most common time-management methods don't work on a consistent basis:
1. Priortise: Only use in emergency or when u have to meet a urgent deadline
2. 'Do it now': Keep on track when carrying out ROUTINE and PREDETERMINED tasks
3. Checklists instead of to-do lists which classify according to groups of tasks and not jumbled up
4. Write programmes (instead of schedules) coordinate the actions with those of another person
5. Do the thing u fear most first: but achieveable target at least?

c) Sufficient, regular, focused attention is the key to success.

d) Ways to overcome resistance:
- Take action before resistance builds up
- Break large tasks down into smaller steps
- Increase the pain of not doing it
- Get resistance working for u by setting up good routines that u'll soon follow 'unconsciously'

e) Always set aside the mindset that one has to handle emergencies. So Impt not to procrastinate...

f) Where to get more time?
1. Look at items with a time attached...
- Compare the monetary value... whether u got what u shld get for those hours spent... what else could u do that time? or how could u improve the efficiency?
- Set aside depth activities with a time attached so that u'll have less resistance of it
2. How to deal with free-flowing items
- Working in short bursts... Concentration increases, during rest time can also think abt the work so that u can improve on it... the deadline factor also increases efficiency...
- Once used to it, get on the momentum and increase the duration, up to 40 mins
- Rotating systemically round a list of categories ensures all areas of work are covered and that one will not be so sian
- Short burst for rest periods as well!
- Be strict with yourself on the system... it must be realistic and covers the whole of your work.

That's all folks! For more details can read up the book at the libraries! Personally i find some of these methods quite recommendable... hope u can gain something out of this :-) Haha... It seems teaching isn't easy after all...

It is indeed a job that takes a lot of perseverence, belief, passion and most importantly, the love and concern for your student. One's gotta believe in any circumstances also gotta help the student to study... and guide him towards the correct way... and I'm glad that I found that eagerness to help both of my tutees back le...

Yupz... not to say I've given up on them... In fact, I know I won't give up on them, since in the first place I've agreed to teach them on such terms, it is not a matter of money that will spur me on... It is the belief that I can do something for them, and the trust I have in them that they will accept my guidance... Though there've been hiccups along the way, I'm glad that I'm still standing firm, believing in them... and the happy thing is they're making progress...

In fact, that day Yuen Mun was telling me he was rather happy with his results... enough for him to go poly to attend some media course... haha... that's perhaps the sweet taste u'll get for teaching ba...

The tuition session today certainly made my day... coz afternoon my spirits a bit low... perhaps due to the weather? But I'm glad u're now pushing me a little with your qns... which is a timely reminder that i've gotta revise my stuff soon le... otherwise can't answer u in the future le... Last weekend marks the first of the two that are burnt... haha... missed out on the fun mind games outing with my fellow bridge friends (heard the turnout was quite good xia) and the most exciting lesson that could ever occur... coz it is on DECEPTION PLAY! haha... but anywayz, quite a nice time to stone inside the bunk and know more abt other ppl... it is always refreshing to know things outside your sphere...

Anyway last bookout went to have pizza with ps! haha... originally wanted to k one... think my k-ing plans have to be postponed coz this bookout's schedule is filled liao... anyway i gotta wait for my mum to cancel the plan before I can go sign up the i-one plus plan... so maybe tel number will change le... though to some ppl like jo, it doesn't make a diff coz everytime they will ask me "who are u ah?" (juz joking!)... so right now gotta pray that ppl in my camp won't call me so much that it will exceed the 100 mins... in fact, it has exceeded 2 months already!

And it is simply a pizza fiesta... coz our big boss down there treat us to two days of pizza... and surprisingly he knows how to play bridge... coz i was like reading the bidding book in ops room and he was staring at the book... sad sad... if got 4 ppl then can cut cards from the plain paper to play le... though it is super lame la...

Looking forward to this bookout! coz it has been super sian being stuck down there!!! finally can touch cards again le... and good luck to the juniors who are getting back their a level results... esp to my mei4... haha... dun be too scared la! I have faith in u! And let's celebrate if u've got the desired results... and to my geog soc junior-cum-class junior minhao: I'm waiting for u to go up the stage for your 4As and 3 Distinctions k! Dun forget to treat me horh...

And finally to my camp tutee, I understand what u're feeling right now... Though it seems that everything is not working fine and u're seriously lagging behind your schedule for dunno whatever reason, I'll still be there... dun give up hope, work extra harder (esp after ROC) and I'm sure we'll see the results! I hope u see us as working as a team, and not a one-directional flow... pls feedback me whatever probs u have and i'll try to help u k?

And it has been a really nice chat with mei4 last night... everything shi4 fang4 le bi3 jiao4 hao3 guo4... thank you for your concern and 'busybodiness' as u put it! haha... Haha... now come to realise off is... the difference of 7 hours seems so precious xia...

Anyway, had a nice chat with tiong soon on wed night... realised the phenomenon regarding inferiority complex that was so commonly seen in army... that people did a lot of stupid things... haha... shan't blog too much abt this otherwise it might touch on *hmm*...

On Thursday played the morning game with zehan... zehan was late this time and luckily jack was around to sub him for the first game... the irony was that jackie was partnering an indian who had just arrived in singapore... and u noe what? I forgot to bring my hp out the whole day... so even zehan late i also gotta know it thru jack... haha... the result of rushing out home fast just to stone at bishan cc...

Finished second again... but this time it is a weaker field compared to last friday... but anywayz made two mistakes which didn't cost in the end... one was a 4S contract where I almost went down as I went out of control, playing a dime instead of a crucial club switch... but luckily the distri was 6-3-2-2 for the left hand opp so there was nothing they could do... funny that zehan was commenting how come other pairs are quarreling after they paired with us... the other mistake was not to cash my top tricks but went establishing spades for another tricks... in the end, the left hand opp managed a brilliant defence and endplayed my dummy... but the good thing is: the defence is very smooth and no mistakes that day! Yayness!

Actually I felt... and I really felt... we should be part of the team... it just happened that during the crucial trials where u had such a breakdown and I was too eager to win boards that we had missed out on the train... seriously we aren't in that gulf apart compared to the other pairs as suggested by the eventual score... so let's work hard k, p? Let's get on the momentum and strive for better results... can't play singapore open the next two weeks to gauge where we stand though... I know we can do it for next year de!

Went hc later to play cards with jack and zehan... haha... still quite afraid of kenna caught by pang... but dun wanna them tio cs becoz of us la... after which sent my video cam for repairs at ps... shall get it in two weeks' time then can play with it again le!

Anyway had an inspiration to write the song along the lines of "suan4 le4"... haha... maybe a reflection of my current mood?

I've fallen at the same spot, and I do not wish to make the same blunder again. One is painful, two is unbearable... I dun wish this to be the third time... Ok... the Chinese New Year is coming! Hey hey...

Luckily I do not need to burn chu xi and chui yi... and gotta two days off on thurs and fri... so quite happy la... but the sad thing is the subsequent two weekends will all be burnt... meaning that i'll miss out on the bridge outing this sat, Singapore Open the subsequent weekend and the Talentime at hc where Diya the superstar will be the guest performer again... haix...

went home on thurs and slacked around... packing my room and attempting to set the chem paper for jerald... then got twice false alarms that i'm going out... but in the end went out on a midnight shopping trip with my parents to ntuc... shopped for the stuff that i'll be munching at jurong island...

Went back to hc on Friday... shall blog these in terms of issues instead of the chronological order:
1. Weiqi
I'm so glad that my juniors, all the way down to the great grand juniors, have not forgotten such a senior in qunxiang... think the one who took the longest to think was jin lei... abt 15 mins for him to think my name...
And i'm quite shi bai to only know that day that wei lai was my grand junior... OMG la... Anyway we took some photos and it was always a great feeling that they invite u back, hoping u can come to play though u are like a noob compared to them, like the 6-dan zhang xiang plus many others...
And yup again to mdm chiu: i'll not give up weiqi... it is like your n-th time telling me that le... maybe i din play comps... but of coz my standard not there liao mahz... must bi4 men2 xiu1 lian4... haha... i'll jiayou de!

2. Geography
Hehe... yet another interest... had a nice chat with ms gwee (i'm flattered that she thinks my geog is powerful though it is degenerating like crazy)... anyway i've already accepted the invitation to help train the guys in the 6 comps... so must really read up soon liao...

3. Met a lot of other teachers... mrs tham still retains that brand of jokes, ms yang looks still as stressed as ever, while ms heng is always very appreciative... at high school side, i din have the chance to meet up with mrs seck, mrs ke and mrs chan to talk (they always leave super early after the celebrations)... but met mingzhen who was stuck almost perpetually in brunei... so quite refreshing to see him down here... and had a nice chat with mr sim and mr wong as well... all promoted liao haha

4. Met a lot of other guys like sebas, tiong soon, junny, herbert... and even saw the ord-ed andrew visiting ms gwee... haha... anyway i'm an associate geper... reason: thinks almost like a geper but english too lousy... but i suppose i think both ways... lan-ed with ts, junny and bert later at btsc... haha... had fun with the

5. Nice performance with zehan... finally got a decent score of like 58% and a nice 2nd place among quite a strong field which sadly didn't win us anything... only the first gets the prize... anyway this came at the expense of changing four buses and getting there late... luckily got weiche to sub me for the first rd... and got 4 top boards of 8, 3 shared tops of 7.5... quite a nice number that we din get in the past... but that only covers 1 0, 0.5 and 1 each... haha... if we managed to score that 3nt board against the 1st, we would've got it... but i am very satisfied le... yay!

6. my camera still can't charge! every time bring it then show no batt... sad case argh... one day must go creative liaoz!

7. yday made some decisions regarding the uni apps after discussing with my sis (thanks a lot! i got listen one k...) Should be down to that list of few schs when i start applying in a few months' time...

8. I've got a godsister le! So happy! haha... dusty blog... shall clean off some of the dust liaoz...

today was pretty much a fun day! met benjy early in the morning and went to harris and kino... had a hard time making decision at kino today... coz i've gone straight to the weiqi section and found a nice book on starting moves which would be particularly useful to me coz i dun remember ding shis... then decided that i had $15 more to spend with my vouchers then went to the bridge section... got this nice book that would help me tackle my probs in bidding conventions and cover so many other aspects which was at $37... then just beside it... a nice scrabble gift set which included a magnetic scrabble board and player's dictionary at only $24... quite a bargain considering the cheapest board is like $29 and the dictionary at $30? haha... but due to financial constraints could only choose the 1st and 2nd one lohz...

then went to chinatown to meet up with liew and li ou... could have reached there in time if not for both of us so gundoo and took the wrong direction... and haha... in the end we waited for li ou only to appear 30 mins later than us though the 3 of us were 30 mins late already... went to k-ster and they actually had this singing competition... so cool leh... sort of like audition that kind... so cannot catch their performance... but could see from their anxious faces... quite funny la... had simply a lot of fun inside our room... not the usual kind u will see... but simply all of us crazy playing around in the room... even sang some variations with li ou (which he loves)... and i think we can seriously sing nice duets!!! Songs like "I still believe" and shan hu hai are quite nice when we sing and harmonise... haha...

then shopped around in the chinatown and ate dinner there... felt the cny mood there... coz it is like so long never shop there in the cny period le... later went for tuition and had a slightly better time... translated 2 essays to him in english and went thru phrases by phrases... but i'm quite pleased at my chem detective skills... tink time to start prep for uni le ba... quite a long time never read up liao...

anyway i'm into death note 6th book... 7 more to go!

sunday was quite a busy day... switching the channels from 5 to U then to 5... haha... think i supported the soccer more... so was quite happy to see amri scored... but sadly diya lost la... saw on the net that the tix selling for 39.90... too ex le ba? anyway i'm happy for diya coz she's gone a long way...

"An Evening of Drama" is an annual public drama production presented by the Hwa Chong Institution (College) Chinese Society.
