wow it has been a long time since i've blogged. that's not counting the entry i have input for wicked the musical, since it is just a copy-and-paste.
it is offically at the 3-quarter mark of my stint in Oxford, if u are wondering why I am at Oxford. I wouldn't certainly foresee myself being at Oxford but I'm happy at the decision to come here for the summer amidst so much uncertainty over housing, people around, money matters, but somehow everything has fallen nicely in place. :) and the decision to undertake an attachment in structural biology and crystallography which is rather distant from the organic synthesis field is reaping some fruits as well
Things have not gone the most smoothly in June to the extent I was saying it was perhaps the worst month in the year. Exams in the second week plagued by wisdom tooth pain and inability to concentrate on my own exams were soon followed by a haste decision to carry on with my trip in Italy while knowing that wisdom tooth pain might get worse and it ended up in a horrid stay in the Italian hosp in Naples for 4 days. Soon after I was recuperating back in Camb, and then again disaster struck yet again when wallet and hp were stolen :(
Anyway things are back to normal order! July was a great month of recovery ensuring that I pulled my two wisdom teeth and stayed at my uncle's place at crewe. Took almost a week of off which was really essential to make sure I am ok to undertake the attachment as well, and reflected on various issues over the entire year in the sudden silence and serenity that I had gained over at the nights. Soon after as I was picking up the various skills at work (at the very least pipetting skills), and started the vigorous and tedious lab sessions which were really fun and encouraging working alongside terrific colleagues, and somehow I made a crystal of the protein where I could take ages for people to crystallise theirs and it was rushed to the diamond for diffraction studies as I managed to squeeze in the last day window. So it ended up a tour of the diamond plus looking at my own crystal being put to the test. Sadly the radiation was too intense but well not everyday is a sunday isn't it!
Weekends had been very fun so far, meeting up with friends, bringing my new-made friends in Oxford to Cambridge for a tour (and we punted really badly), having movie sessions, watching wicked musical and the latest weekend a bridge comp at brighton where sitting at the beach after the match was really relaxing and soothing!
anyway two more weeks in oxford, and i would be back in singapore!
